Piercing Aftercare
Heal times may vary, keep initial jewelry in until fully healed and downsize accordingly. Less is more with all piercings; we are trying to allow your body to accept a foreign object so we must be careful and patient!
Do not rotate or fidget with Jewelry. Wash your hands before and after handling any piercing. Clean new piercing with a sterile unionized saline solution once a day opposite to when you shower. We recommend Neilmed piercing aftercare! There is no magic solution to healing piercings or bumps, our body is doing the healing and it’s our job to be gentle and keep it clean.
After showers gently remove build up around piercing and dry well with a Q-tip. Opposite to when you shower clean your piercing with sterile saline solution and then gently remove any build up and dry extremely well using a Q-tip. Drying is super important when it comes to healing, excessive moisture attracts bacteria which can cause irritation and can prolong healing.
Piercings may reject, migrate, or become infected if improperly cared for including pressure from sleeping or clothing, swimming while healing, picking, snagging, and or overcleaning. Do not submerge your piercing in bodies of water while healing. Such as pools, bath, hot tub, lake, ocean, etc. I always recommend waiting at least 2 months before swimming or soaking the new piercing. Check jewelry Daily to ensure it stays properly fastened.
Not all healing is created equal; it may take longer to heal for a number of reasons. It’s important to stay patient and reach out when you are unsure or need help!
Downsizing
Downsizing is when we remove the initial jewelry and replace it with a shorter bar, this can be crucial to help avoid migration, snagging, irritation and discomfort. I recommend checking in with your piercer around 6-8 weeks into healing. You may not always be ready at the 6-8 weeks but it’s always good to check in and get a better idea of how your piercing is doing!
